“We expect mothers to work like they don’t have children and raise children as if they don’t work.” How are we as women supposed to live up to all the expectations placed upon us? We are expected to manage school schedules, extracurricular activities, PTA’s, play dates, homework, lunches, meetings, deadlines, conference calls, clients, reporting, data, a spouse, and in many cases a family pet. It’s no wonder we often feel like a failure, or that we didn’t do enough with our day. The pressure can be crushing. After a long and challenging day, and after they’ve tucked their little ones in for the night, many moms unwind with a hot bath and a glass of wine, although these days many moms have converted to using cannabis for their unwind time.

Hold your gasps and let me share some data points. According to an article from Forbes Magazine, over the last 40 years women have substantially increased their paid out of home hours, and despite the time spent on their career, women still tend to spend more time on unpaid household and family care work. Having full-time careers, and full-time family duties can cause stress, mood swings, insomnia and even weight gain. Our bodies also respond to stress by releasing cortisol, which can lead to the onset of anxiety and depression. We have enough on our plate as is, worrying about these awful side effects should not be a factor in our day. Studies have shown that cannabis has reduced anxiety and blood pressure, regulates and prevents diabetes, fights cancer, reduced pain and inflammation, helps with ADHD/ADD, regulates seizures, and a bonus, helps with weight loss. If you can take the edge off with an adult beverage or an edible, then amen to that sister!

Whatever your vice, lets agree to avoid defining one another based on our lifestyle choices. We are capable of being nurturing, compassionate and empathetic parents, all while being human, and giving each other a gesture of understanding the daily challenges associated with the most difficult job known to woman…raising actual gremlins. Can we foster a culture where we support one another, we leave the judgement behind us, we promote responsible and legal consumption, we respect each other’s personal choices, and we actually see each other for who we are…a group of strong, hardworking, powerful, badass warriors who take care of our families, and ourselves.
